Skin Fades in Saltaire — What to Ask For

15 March 2026

What actually is a skin fade?

A skin fade takes the hair down to the skin at the sides and back, then blends it upward into whatever length you want on top. The "skin" part means grade zero at the bottom — no guard, just clipper on scalp. From there it graduates up.

The difference between a good fade and a bad one is in the blend. Anyone can buzz hair short. The skill is making the transition invisible. No lines, no patches, no harsh steps.

Low, mid, or high?

Most people who walk in and ask for a skin fade want a mid fade. That starts the skin about an inch above the ear. It works on most head shapes and it grows out cleaner than a high fade.

  • Low fade — starts just above the ear. Subtle. Good if you want something tidy but not dramatic.
  • Mid fade — starts about an inch above the ear. The standard. Works with most styles on top.
  • High fade — starts near the temples. More contrast, more impact. Needs more frequent touch-ups.

If you're not sure, go mid. You can always go higher next time.

What to tell us

Bring a photo if you can. Instagram, Google Images, a screenshot from a mate's story — doesn't matter. A picture removes 90% of the guesswork.

If you don't have one, just tell us:

  • How short you want the top (finger-length is a good reference)
  • Whether you want a hard part or natural
  • How aggressive you want the blend

We'll ask questions if we need to. Nobody leaves the chair wondering what happened.

How often should you come back?

Fades grow out fast. If you want it looking sharp, every 2-3 weeks. If you're less bothered, 4 weeks is fine but the blend will be gone by then.

We do a loyalty scheme — every 10th visit is free. So if you're coming every 2 weeks, that's a free cut roughly every 5 months.

Booking
